Crystallite Size & Strain

Crystallite Size can be determined from the profile widths:

1. Add peak profiles:

• • Analyze -> FInd Peak Profile (F3) and/or

  • Profile Edit Cursor (left click - add; right click - delete; click-control-drag - change width)

2. Fit the profiles:

• • Hit 'Play' button on Profile Fitting window

  • Don't do the whole pattern at once - zoom in on one or two peaks, fit, then zoom again.

  • Crystallite size based on each peak is shown on right.

3. Estimate size/strain

• • Analyze -> Size and Strain Plot 

  • If there is lattice strain, the plot will have a nonzero slope.
